Content Editor (part-time)

The Marketing Content Editor will be responsible for maintaining the expertly-crafted marketing deliverables and superior service experience our clients have come to expect.

Working with the organization’s principals and project team to understand the content needs for each client, the Marketing Content Editor will become intimately familiar with each client’s preferred voice, style, and tone to advise and steer writers to consistently deliver exceptional work.

In this role, you’ll go beyond simple proofreading for spelling errors and grammar (both of which are still super important, obviously) critically evaluate a wide range of asset types on behalf of a diverse client roster for completeness and strength. You’ll identify “white space” — holes in narratives — and recommend additions, deletions, or other changes that improve the quality of the written content, strengthen the client’s marketing message, and ensures that each draft aligns with the client’s expectations.

This part-time, salaried position is ideal for an experienced freelancer searching for income stability and schedule flexibility while permitting outside work and other professional opportunities.

What you’ll bring to the table

You’re a master storyteller with deep and broad experience in marketing and general business. You excel at zooming out to see the big picture goal of each asset, identifying areas of improvement or sections that have veered off course, and can sufficiently (and professionally_ communicate changes that will strengthen the asset’s central strategic argument while also ensuring it aligns with the structure, tone, style, and substance the client expects.

Specifically, responsibilities include:

  • Collaborating on or creating content briefs and outlines to kick off new projects, as needed

  • Critically evaluating drafts of all long-form and short-form assets for flow, readability, accuracy, and clearly defined business implications

  • Ensuring writer drafts map to client-approved briefs and adhere to established formatting guidelines

  • Proofreading submitted drafts for grammar, keyword/keyword phrases, and properly citations or links when appropriate

  • Research and verify content accuracy, where appropriate

Qualified candidates will have these skills, traits, or experiences

  • 3-5 years of experience writing and/or editing both long-form and short-form content such as white papers, eBooks, case studies, blogs, and articles in the high-tech industry.

  • Aptitude for broad scope of enterprise and emerging technology (e.g. cloud computing, cybersecurity, automation software, etc.)

  • Natural communicator and coach capable of providing guidance and feedback on drafts to ensure they align with content briefs, outlines, customer style/preference

  • Strong command of standard language and common industry terminology/vernacular

  • Exceptional narrative-style business storyteller

  • Business background with the marketing acumen to understand how to connect problems/challenges to capabilities/features.

  • Comfortable interfacing with writers of diverse backgrounds and potentially with clients

  • Expert proficiency with the G Suite platform (Drive, Docs, Sheets, etc.)

  • 2-4 years of marketing experience, with strong preference given to candidates with prior experience work in product/solution marketing, content marketing in a B2B tech organization, or software sales
